It\u2019s Valentine\u2019s Day, and we\u2019re also on the eve of the spring real estate blitz. This got us thinking about the similarities between dating and residential real estate<\/a>: there are many!<\/p>\n

Whether swiping for your next date or searching for the home of your dreams, technology has made both of these types of searches much easier, but also much more complicated.<\/p>\n

So, whether you\u2019re looking for your forever match \u2014 or for your forever home \u2014 the approach is pretty similar. In love and real estate, these eternal truths should be top of mind:<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u25cf Fear of commitment \u2014 Buying a home, just like starting a relationship, involves a certain level of commitment. Like dating, homebuyers<\/a> should know how much time they\u2019re willing to invest searching for their next home. Fast flames burn quickly \u2014 make sure the love for your home is one that will last.<\/p>\n

\u25cf He\/she didn\u2019t look anything like their picture! \u2014 If you\u2019ve used online dating, you\u2019ve probably met people who end up looking nothing like their online photos. The same happens with homes \u2014 photos can be misleading. You can\u2019t fall in love online; there is no substitute for that in-person connection.<\/p>\n

\u25cf Learn from past mistakes \u2014 Like in dating, mistakes happen in real estate. Whether missing out on the perfect home or having your offer rejected, love (and sometimes real estate) hurts. It\u2019s important to learn from your past and not repeat the same mistakes.<\/p>\n

\u25cf Communication is the (house)key \u2014 Open and honest communication is the secret ingredient to trust in a romantic relationship. The same goes for the customer\/realtor relationship; you want your agent to be available, committed and truthful.<\/p>\n

\u25cf Stick to your budget \u2014 Lovestruck daters may want to wine and dine their new partners, but they can\u2019t always afford the priciest new hot spot. The same applies to real estate: it\u2019s important to concentrate on homes within your price range. After all, bigger mortgages mean less money for those fancy dinner dates.<\/p>\n

\u25cf Go with your gut \u2014 If it doesn\u2019t feel right, don\u2019t do it. Your instincts are usually right \u2014 don\u2019t dive into a relationship if you\u2019re not fully committed, and don\u2019t go all-in on a home you that know isn\u2019t your perfect match.<\/p>\n
